WILD PALMS - Dave's Classic Sunbeam Alpine Automobile
DAVE'S Classic 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series II Automobile!
I have owned and driven some really awesome classic automobiles. I only wish I would have had the vision to keep and restore these wonderful automobiles at the time I owned them. I bought this 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series II in 1971 when I was living and working in Cleveland, Ohio. The winters had already lightened some of the body. After rebuilding the 4 speed transmission, I decided to begin a body on restoration of sorts, using the facilities of a do-it-yourself garage in East Cleveland, where I removed the engine and drivetrain, rebuilt brakes, fuel line, replaced gas tank, shocks, painted the engine compartment, etc. The machine shop performed the engine rebuild and assembly and I installed everything over about a 12 month period. After the mechanical restoration, I took the Alpine back to my own garage and drove it off and on for a period of 8 years, towing it to Georgia in 1977. I always enjoyed my time in this car and at one point, considered buying a matching Sunbeam Tiger to double my fun.
